Teens crash stolen SUV in National City, police find odd items

NATIONAL CITY - Police have arrested one teen and are searching for several others suspected of crashing a stolen SUV in a National City neighborhood and then fleeing the scene overnight Tuesday, leaving some strange items behind.

San Diego police report that a Toyota RAV4 smashed into a parked SUV and flipped onto its roof at about midnight Tuesday in the 2700 block of Ridgeway Drive.

Witnesses told officers that six or seven teens fled the vehicle. National City police reportedly caught two suspects at the Sweetwater Inn located at 2435 Sweetwater Rd.

At the scene officers found shoes, alcohol and a hog-tied Barbie doll scattered in the street.

Neighbor Daniel Egert heard the jarring sounds over his television a few doors down.

“We were inside,” Egert explained. "We heard a noise and we came out and saw this thing upside down. I didn’t hear any speeding or anything like that. All we heard was the crunch."

California Highway Patrol (CHP) told 10News the plates on the Toyota were switched and the truck was stolen.

The teen boy was booked into San Diego County Juvenile Hall on charges of suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of a stolen vehicle, CHP said.
