EL CAJON, Calif. - A 17-year-old boy is in juvenile hall Thursday after police said he led California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash in El Cajon.
The chase ended on East Main Street near the eastbound Interstate 8 freeway at about 2 a.m.
10News learned that officers attempted to pull over a speeding Ford Escape SUV, which had four teens inside. But the vehicle kept going.
The teen driver was allegedly driving drunk and reached speeds as high as 120 MPH before exiting the freeway, where he struck a light pole. No one was injured in the crash.
The 17-year-old driver was taken into custody.
10News learned the vehicle is owned by the father of one of the teen passengers and the male driver was the one behind the wheel because the other occupants in the car were intoxicated. The driver was the only one who was under 18 years old. The other passengers were over 18, but all were under 21 years old.
10News also learned the teens were driving home from the beach and they had been drinking.
