ESCONDIDO - An investigation was under way Thursday in Escondido, where an 18-year-old skateboarder suffered life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a vehicle.
The accident occurred in the 1600 block of E. Washington Ave. about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Escondido police Lt. Justin Murphy.
The victim, who lives in Escondido, was traveling eastbound on his skateboard in a traffic lane when he turned left in an apparent attempt to cross the road and was struck by an eastbound Hyundai, the lieutenant said in a
Paramedics took the skateboarder to the hospital with significant head trauma believed to be life-threatening, Murphy said.
The driver, who was not injured, remained at the scene.
