A 17-year-old boy fatally injured in an apparent gang fight has been identified as an Encinitas resident. Alfred Cuevas died Saturday morning at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, where he was airlifted from the Scripps hospital in Encinitas, which has no trauma center. The fight was reported shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of South Nardo Avenue in Solana Beach. Two of the combatants were injured but the other one was treated at the Encinitas hospital and released, sheriff's Lt. Dennis Brugos said. Deputies determined that four suspects from Encinitas drove to South Nardo shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday and exchanged words with a man standing outside an apartment complex, Brugos said. The man ran into an apartment and came out with several other young men and confronted the ones in the vehicle, Brugos said. A fight ensued and two of the occupants of the vehicle were injured, the lieutenant said. The 17-year-old and his companion were taken by their friends to Scripps in Encinitas, Brugos said. No arrests have been announced.
