SAN DIEGO - A Team 10 consumer alert just in time for Valentine's Day, when millions of flowers will be sent to loved ones with just a few clicks. Team 10 tested three companies to see if what you are sending is what you pay for.
Team 10 ordered the Smiles and Sunshine bouquet from ProFlowers (pictured below, left) for $22.49 with a vase for an additional $5. With taxes and fees and a deal code on the site for 25 percent off, we paid $46.18. Team 10 received an email saying ProFlowers doubled our amount of flowers for free because we were a new customer.
When the flowers were unwrapped, a stem broke off and Team 10 noticed some discoloration on the roses and lilies that were wilted (pictured below, right).
The next arrangement Team 10 ordered was from 1-800-Flowers. We typed to an online customer service representative on the site that we wanted to spend $30 for a bouquet with a vase. They offered a "Fields of Europe" arrangement (pictured below, left) for $40 with a 25 percent off code. We paid $48.58 with a $14.99 service charge and tax.
When the bouquet arrived (pictured below, right), it appeared to have a few less flowers than the photo, though two of the flowers had not bloomed and one flower appeared droopy.
The last order was to Florabella, a local florist in University Heights. Team 10 went to the website and browsed the arrangements that you could order over the phone or through email. I told them my arrangement was for my manager and they offered something cheerful, happy and bright.
The minimum amount for delivery was $45 and with the delivery fee and tax, it was the most expensive out of the three at $58.60. When the arrangement arrived (pictured, below), it had the largest amount of flowers with no dead or wilted flowers in the bunch.
ProFlowers told Team 10:
Thank you for reaching out to us about the flowers you received for your test. We're sorry your experience wasn't the one you were expecting.
We take tremendous pride in sending the high-quality, fresh flowers we're known for - and we do whatever it takes to accomplish that. Our flowers are hand-selected and arrive ready to bloom, guaranteed for seven days.
Oftentimes, we ship flowers with the rose guard, which are the outer petals that protect the inner bud. These petals are sometimes wilted or have charred edges. We suggest removing the outer most 3-5 petals on each rose. It then reveals the fresh flower underneath and the flower opens more quickly.
We can't pinpoint exactly why your bouquet did not arrive as it should have, but we are 100% committed to making it the best experience for you and all our customers who order on ProFlowers.com. That is why we have a seven-day guarantee of fresh flowers and are known for having the best customer service in the online floral industry.
Please let me know if you have any questions or other concerns regarding your experience with ProFlowers. We will be replacing your order with fresh new flowers.
