SWAT called to home on 30th Street: Man detained following standoff

SAN DIEGO - A man believed to be armed with a knife barricaded himself in a home in the 100 block of 30th Street but was later taken into custody following a nearly two-hour standoff.

San Diego police told 10News they received a call at about 4 p.m. of a 44-year-old man trying to attack his father.

The man, who reportedly had been drinking heavily and throwing things around the house, refused officers' orders to exit unarmed and give himself up, Sgt. David Jennings said. The man was seen clutching a large kitchen knife.

SWAT officers were summoned to the scene and surrounded the home, which is near L Street.

Police said a woman was inside the home during the ordeal.

Shortly before 6 p.m., SWAT personnel forced their way into the house, subdued the suspect with a beanbag-firing shotgun and arrested him. The woman was taken into custody, unharmed, for questioning.

No serious injuries were reported.
