SAN DIEGO - An SUV crashed into the wall of a home through a garage in University City on Wednesday.
The crash occurred at about 7:45 p.m. in the 7000 block of Lipmann Street, according to authorities.
"[The driver's] foot slipped off the brake pedal and hit the accelerator and he basically drove through the back wall of his garage and into his kitchen," said Jim Gaboury, who is with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
The driver was only going a couple of miles an hour but it was fast enough to knock his water heater through a back wall of his garage, which then flooded his hallway and living room.
"He hit the main water line coming into the water heater so he basically had a few hundred gallons on the ground," said Gaboury.
The gas line was also severed and when firefighters arrived. Gas was shut off and the home was evacuated.
Firefighters then assembled a wooden frame to support the damaged the wall. A structural engineer will now be called out to the home to examine the damage.
No one was injured.
