Suspicious device found at Viejas Casino ruled harmless

ALPINE, Calif. - An object found at an entrance at Viejas Casino Friday afternoon was ruled harmless after a nearly two-hour investigation.

The San Diego Sheriff's Department said they received a call just before 1:15 p.m. of a suspicious-looking device outside of the west entrance of the casino, which is located on 5000 Willows Road in Alpine.

After an investigation that involved the sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit, authorities determined that the object -- a purple smoke canister -- was harmless.

No evacuations were ordered and no injuries were reported.
