SAN DIEGO - A suspicious device reported in Tierrasanta on Sunday prompted a response from the bomb squad and was rendered safe, fire officials said.

A security company spotted the device just after 11:30 a.m. on the street in the 3200 block of Santo Road, near the parking lot of the Armed Services YMCA.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department sent their bomb squad to investigate, a dispatcher said. San Diego police also dispatched the Metro Arson Strike Team to investigate.

The device was "rendered safe" at 1:05 p.m., the dispatcher said. After further investigation, the device turned out to a paintball grenade which contained paint and is used while playing paintball.

The Armed Services YMCA parking lot was briefly closed while authorities conducted their investigation.
