Student killed in Escondido crash: Kely Campbell crashed while on Del Dios Highway

ESCONDIDO, Calif. - A 22-year-old Rancho Santa Fe man home from college for Thanksgiving died in a single-vehicle crash near Escondido Thursday.
Kely Austin Campbell was driving west on Del Dios Highway shortly after 2 a.m. when the sedan went off a curve at or near West Via Rancho Parkway and crashed into an embankment, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.
A passerby called for help, but medics were unable to save Campbell, who was declared dead at the scene, according to the M.E.'s office.
According to Campbell's Facebook page, he was a student at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
