SAN DIEGO - A third consecutive day of strong gusty winds was in store Thursday for the valleys and mountains of San Diego County, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service attributed the wind event, which began late Tuesday, to a weak disturbance moving through the Colorado River Basin. The agency scheduled a wind advisory for the valleys and mountains until 10 p.m.

During the advisory period, sustained winds in and below mountain passes were expected to be 20 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts up to 50 mph.

Sustained winds in valley areas were expected to be 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, mainly near the foothills.

"Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for (motorists with) high profile vehicles," according to an NWS advisory.
