String of burglaries at businesses in Mission Valley has owners taking action

Businesses taking additional security measures

SAN DIEGO - A string of businesses in Mission Valley have been hit by burglars over the last several weeks.

On Sunday, four businesses were broken into in one complex along Camino Del Rio South.

"Somehow they just smashed into here so there was a huge hole in there," said Christine McDannell as she showed 10News the damage left behind.

McDannell is the owner of Eco Chateau Wellness Spa. She says thieves thoroughly went through her business only to steal an iPad.

"So the window was shattered, there was glass everywhere, but yeah, every single cabinet and drawer had been opened through the entire spa," she said.

The Modern Elements hair salon next door was also broken into.

"Everything was basically all over the floor," said owner Brady Harrison.

Nothing was stolen, but now he is left to deal with a broken window.

"Just broken glass and everything was just tore up," he said.

Just down the way, Infrastructure Productions' co-owner Chris Holloway is cleaning up. He says the burglar got away with a $3,000 camera.

"They took a good amount of stuff but not everything they could," said Holloway.

The business owners tell 10News that police investigators say there have been several burglaries in the area.

10News looked at crimemapping.com and found nine businesses along Camino Del Rio South had been burglarized since Jan. 22.

Each of the business owners tell 10News they are now considering adding more security.

"We're looking to, like, do every single thing like lockdown, like all the important stuff in the office … so that's what we'll be doing," said Holloway.

None of the businesses had surveillance cameras. Each is now considering installing security cams.

Anyone with any information on these crimes is asked to call the San Diego Police Department.
