SAN DIEGO - A band of showers and thunderstorms moved through San Diego County Monday led to some lightning strikes at local beaches.

As of 8 a.m., the storms had dropped a few hundredths of an inch of rain in some areas, including Palomar Mountain and De Luz. Forecasters said the scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms would continue as a weak low pressure trough moves across the region.

"A plume of tropical moisture will continue to stream across Southern California today, bringing scattered showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms," according to the weather service. "Most of the showers will be light, but some will be briefly heavy. The chances will gradually diminish later this afternoon."

Fair and warmer weather is expected to prevail midweek as high pressure rebuilds aloft, according to the NWS. However, a second low pressure trough will bring cooler and cloudier weather with a chance of precipitation later in the week.
