SAN DIEGO - The 20th annual San Diego Latino Film Festival is scheduled to open Thursday afternoon at the Digiplex Mission Valley Cinemas at Hazard Center.

Among the first night screenings will be "Filly Brown," about a young Los Angeles hip-hop artist considering a deal from a sleazy record producer, and "Mariachi Gringo," about a young white man who runs away to Mexico to become a Mariachi singer, are among the first films scheduled to be screened.

Stars of the two films, including Lou Diamond Phillips, Gina Rodriguez and Martha Higareda are scheduled to attend the opening night. "Mariachi Gringo" director Tom Gustafson is also slated to be on hand.

Other stars set to appear during the 11-day festival are Aaron Diaz, Adriana Barraza, Kate del Castillo, Hector Jimenez and Ana Serradilla, along with director Gregory Nava.

The festival will also include a spotlight on Brazilian cinema.

An opening night party is scheduled at 9 p.m. at Cafe Sevilla at 353 Fifth Ave. in the Gaslamp Quarter.
