SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Homeowners living on Leon Avenue near Imperial Beach are worried about drivers speeding past their homes.

On Sunday a family pet ran onto the street and was hit and killed by a car. The pet, the second dog killed this year.

Elisabeth Langley says she’s witnessed several accidents right outside her home. By her count, the electrical box outside her home has been knocked out five times this year.

The speeding is so bad, Langley won’t walk with her children to school.

San Diego Police say they’ve responded to three reported accidents on Leon Avenue in the last year.

Langley hopes drivers will slow down. She says SDPD has increased their enforcement in the area periodically, but she complains that when the officers leave, the drivers go back to driving too fast.

10News reach out to SDPD about installing speed bumps or increasing patrols in the area, at the time this article was posted, we have not heard back.
