CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A South Bay dentist is using something very close to the 10News Pinpoint Doppler Live radar to save his patients time, money, and a lot of pain.
Sam Halabo, D.M.D. in Chula Vista started using the CamX Spectra about a year ago to detect earlier issues in a patient’s teeth. Dr. Halabo said it allows him to treat the problems much earlier compared to the old way of poking teeth with a sharp instrument.
“Even with x-rays, we won’t be able to see the decay until it has actually gone into dentin and by then it’s too late,” said Dr. Halabo. “It really allows us to catch things very early in a child’s mouth and avoid big problems and bigger costs for the parents.”
The dentist uses an electronic wand in the patient’s mouth. The tip of the wand is equipped with an LED light and camera. The LED light highlights the imperfection and the camera transmits them to a screen where the dentist can watch. The screen looks very similar to a Doppler radar weather report.
Dr. Halabo said the Spectra could save families thousands of dollars in the long run by treating dental issues earlier and avoiding painful procedures that include the dreaded dentist drill.
