SAN DIEGO - Tiger Woods is expected to return to Torrey Pines in 2013, sources told 10News.
Sources said Woods is expected to make just his second appearance at the Farmers Insurance Open since he won his most recent major championship at Torrey Pines -- the U.S. Open in 2008.
Woods is not expected to officially enter the tournament until January, but sources close to both Woods and the Farmers Insurance Open have been told to prepare for his appearance at the event, which would mark his 2013 PGA Tour debut.
Woods missed the 2009 tournament at Torrey Pines while recovering from knee surgery, and skipped the 2010 Farmers Insurance Open in the wake of his infidelity scandal.
In 2011, the six-time winner returned to the event, but finished in a disappointing tie for 44th place after weekend scores of 74 and 75.
Last year, Woods chose to play in a tournament in Abu Dhabi opposite the Famers Insurance Open. He is once again scheduled to play in the Middle East, but in 2013, the Abu Dhabi Championship falls the week before the PGA Tour stop at Torrey Pines, allowing him to participate in both events.
The 2013 Farmers Insurance Open will be contested from January 24-27 on the South and North courses at Torrey Pines.
Brandt Snedeker is the defending champion.
