SAN DIEGO – Police are investigating gunshots that were heard by a group of fishermen on Shelter Island overnight Tuesday.

According to San Diego police, at around 1 a.m. the men were fishing at a pier across from the Best Western Plus Island Palms Hotel when they heard five or six gunshots coming from a parking lot. They then saw a white-colored car or SUV peel out.

Hotel security guards ran to the scene. San Diego police and San Diego Harbor police responded and searched the area, but were unable to locate any suspects.

Police did not confirm if they found any shell casings or evidence of a shooting.
