NEW YORK - Less than a week after being charged with kidnapping and rape in connection with the three missing women found alive after nearly a decade, Ariel Castro was mocked in a skit on the latest “Saturday Night Live.”
The cold open to Saturday night’s show tackled the Benghazi hearings and a lack of coverage from mainstream media.
After committee chairman Darrell Issa, played by Bill Hader, calls Jodi Arias, in the spotlight after being convicted of murder, to the stand to testify about Benghazi, the Kenan Thompson-portrayed representative thinks it’s a ploy for TV ratings.
“What next? The guy from Cleveland who kept those women in his basement?” Thompson asks.
Then comes the quick appearance of Bobby Moynihan, slumped in a chair wearing a jumpsuit and acting creepy, as Castro.
“Does this mean I don’t get to testify?” he asks the panel.
The graphic "SNL" uses in its mock C-SPAN coverage labels Castro as "accused rapist/murderer," however, Castro is not charged with murder at this time.
In the May 5 episode, Seth Meyers addressed the Boston bombings in "Weekend Update" with a joke about friends of the suspect and texting.
