A final farewell was held Saturday for Maribel Arteaga the U.S. Customs agent killed last week by her estranged husband.

Family, friends and co-workers honored the San Diego State University graduate who had recently started her career with the Customs and Border Protection agency.

Family members said she was their inspiration. Arteaga and her two young son’s were inside her Chula Vista Apartment when she was killed Dec. 10. Police investigators believe Arteaga’s husband, Jesus Arteaga Garcia is responsible.

The couple was in the middle of a nasty divorce when detectives said Garcia knocked on his estranged wife’s door, and stabbed her with a large hunting knife when she opened the door.

Garcia has not been apprehended.
