DEL MAR, Calif. - Tens of thousands of people showed up for the 80th Silver Bay Dog Show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds over the weekend.
Organizers tell 10News that each day more than 10,000 people came to the fairgrounds for the competition, from participants to spectators and vendors who contributed $1.75 million to the tourism industry.
For many of the owners and handlers, the trip to San Diego to show their dogs has become an annual event.
Julie Cooper says it has also turned into a family tradition.
"My kids do what they call junior showmanship, and it's judged for the kids and scholarships are available," she said.
Though each dog will not walk out of the ring with a new title, owners say the show gives them a chance to show off their four-legged pals and enjoy all that San Diego has to offer.
