LAKESIDE - The Jamul woman killed as she apparently drove the wrong way on state Route 67 in Lakeside, and the Alpine man killed in the subsequent head-on crash, were publicly identified Saturday.
Trista Lynn Stier, 29, was driving a silver Ford F150 pickup truck and around 3:15 p.m. Friday drove south onto the northbound off-ramp near Winter Gardens Boulevard. She then drove into oncoming traffic at about 60 miles per hour, according to the California Highway Patrol and the county Medical Examiner's Office.
Her pickup truck collided head-on with a northbound 2014 Chevrolet 3500 utility vehicle driven by Douglas M. Menegos, 49, the offices said.
The force of the crash caused both vehicles to spin across northbound lanes. One of them collided with a 2002 Ford F450 driven by a 53-year-old man from El Cajon, who was not injured, the CHP reported.
Menegos was airlifted to Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 4 p.m. Friday, according to the CHP.
Stier was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where she died from her injuries shortly before 5 p.m., officials with the Medical Examiner's Office said.
No toxicological studies were released.
