"Moisture is very limited, so we might see a thunderstorm or two pop up later on this afternoon, but nothing in the way of severe weather," said Meteorologist James Thomas.

The light showers and thunderstorms were expected to develop as a disturbance lifting north across the state combined with some lingering moisture and the storm should move north at about 20 miles per hour, the NWS said.

"We don't have any rainfall reflectivity in the San Diego County mountains, so we're not expecting much in the way at all there," Thomas said.

Forecasters said rainfall amounts would likely be less than a tenth of an inch, but higher amounts were possible in areas where storms develop repeatedly. Cloud to ground lightning was also possible.

"We have seen a few thunderstorms this afternoon with associated lightning strikes, but they have been in the San Bernardino mountains and northward. Nothing yet in San Diego County. Looks like it's probably going to stay that way, although we couldn't rule out an isolated thunderstorm over the mountains in San Diego County," Thomas said.
