SAN DIEGO - A shooting in a Valencia Park-area residential neighborhood left a man in his 20s dead Thursday, authorities reported.

Patrol officers responding to reports of gunfire shortly before 12:30 p.m. found the mortally wounded victim lying in the roadway in the 5400 block of Trinidad Way, near San Jacinto Drive, according to San Diego police.

The man died at the scene, SDPD homicide Lt. Jorge Duran said. The victim's name was withheld pending family notification.

Witnesses told detectives the shooter or shooters might have fled the area in a medium-sized SUV, the lieutenant said.
