SAN DIEGO - A man injured in a shooting at a motel in El Cajon has died.
The incident occurred at about 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Villa Serena Hotel in the 700 block of El Cajon Boulevard, according to El Cajon police.
When officers arrived, they found a young man who was about 25 years old inside a room in the motel suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was transported to Sharp Hospital but later died from his injuries. The victim's identity is not being released pending family notification.
An investigation into the shooting is underway. No information regarding a possible suspect was immediately available.
A woman who described herself as a long-term guest at the hotel said in a telephone interview that she did not hear gunshots but did hear a woman screaming for someone to call paramedics.
"She said somebody got shot," said the woman, who asked not to be identified.
