Shooting in La Jolla under investigation

SAN DIEGO - Police are looking for a man suspected in a shooting at a La Jolla motel that left one person injured.

The shooting was reported at the La Jolla Biltmore Motel on 5385 La Jolla Blvd. shortly after 5:30 p.m., according to San Diego police.

Police say an armed man barged into a room where his girlfriend, the victim, the victim's girlfriend and another acquaintance were inside. Officers said the suspect said something to the male victim to the likes of, "Why are you disrespecting me?" and then pistol-whipped him several times.

As the suspect struck the victim in the head, the gun went off, firing a bullet into the victim's hand. He was taken to Scripps La Jolla hospital to be treated for his injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening.

Police believe the suspected shooter, only identified as a 24-year-old man, and the injured person knew each other.

Officers are searching on for the suspect and his girlfriend, who left in a gold-colored Ford Explorer headed southbound on La Jolla Boulevard.
