RAINBOW, Calif. - Deputies checking on a probationer at a rural home in the far northern reaches of San Diego County discovered a cockfighting operation Tuesday and arrested the alleged owner of the gaming birds.

The sheriff's personnel found the 47 roosters and cockfighting paraphernalia at the residence in the 47000 block of Rainbow Glen Road about 7 a.m., Lt. Todd Richardson said. The birds were turned over to county animal control officers.

A tenant at the property, 47-year-old Rolando Carbajal, was arrested on suspicion of possessing fighting chickens.

Deputies found the initial subject of the search, 39-year-old Blanca Campos, nearby and arrested her on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and for allegedly possessing drug paraphernalia, the lieutenant said.
