Police investigate sexual assault attempt in Scripps Ranch

SAN DIEGO - Police are searching for a suspect in connection with an attempted sexual assault in Scripps Ranch.

The attempt occurred at about 2:10 a.m. Saturday near Sweet Willow Way and Stonebridge Parkway. According to police, a man entered the victim's home and went into a bedroom. A woman awoke to the suspect standing next to her bed. Once she had woken up, the suspect quickly left the home.

Police say the suspect did not touch the victim. They believe he entered the home through an unlocked door.

A neighbor who lives across the street from where the attempted assault occurred says he was shocked to hear what happened and is making sure to keep his doors and windows locked as a precaution.

"It's a very quiet street and everybody watches out for everybody else, and it really surprised everybody to see the police cars there," said neighbor Rick Kneeshaw.

Police described the suspect as a man who was about 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall with a chubby, large and broad build. He was possibly wearing dark basketball-type shorts at the time.

Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or San Diego Police Department's sex crimes unit at (619) 531-2289.
