Sheriff's deputies visited dozens of East County homes on Wednesday to let people know a sexual predator moved in to the neighborhood.
Borrego Springs residents tried to convince a judge last month to not let 63-year-old Terry Allan Stone move in.
Stone served 20 years in prison for molesting five boys between the ages of five and 13 years old from 1983 to 1993. He was released from Coalinga State Hospital, a mental hospital in Fresno County, this week and has registered as a Sexual Violent Predator with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
A security guard will live with Stone for a time. He is also required to wear a GPS monitor and avoid a nearby park.
The notice that went out to residents stated:
"The Sheriff's Department and the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Task Force are not responsible for the selection of Stone's residence. The placement is the sole responsibility of the California Department of State Hospitals (DSH) and the San Diego County Superior Court."
