SAN DIEGO - A registered sex offender being monitored by authorities was arrested after allegedly breaking into a 70-year-old woman's home and molesting her, sheriff's officials announced Tuesday.
According to sheriff's officials, the alleged victim accused 68-year-old John Wilson Kreischer of entering her Jacumba residence Monday morning, where she said he kissed and fondled her.
He left the home in a white pickup truck but was arrested in the area a short time later, sheriff's officials said. He was booked into San Diego Central Jail on charges of burglary and sexual battery.
Kreischer's bail was set at $50,000.
He is currently on state parole as a result of a 2009 arrest for failing to register as a sex offender. He was released in 2013 and was being monitored by GPS as a condition of his parole.
In an interview with 10News in May of 2013, Kreischer said he is classified a "high-risk" but he is not violent.
"I am classified as high-risk, OK? That's what the terminology is that the police department puts on me," he said.
When a 10News reporter asked if people should be afraid of Kreischer, he replied, "Not at all. I don't jump out from bushes, from behind trees, stalk people or run around. I don't do anything. I made a mistake."
He also talked about his GPS monitor that he wears as a condition of his parole.
"I am on an ankle bracelet," he said. "If I go anywhere, let me tell you something, they know right away."
10News went to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department on Tuesday and were told that Kreischer was wearing his GPS monitor at the time of Monday's incident.
"She called our station saying that a man had walked into her house and had started to fondle her, kiss her," said Jan Caldwell, spokeswoman for the sheriff's department. "So after he left abruptly, we sent a deputy, took down the information and then found him in his car."
Even though he is now in custody, investigators want to know what he has been up to since he was paroled earlier this year.
"We want his photograph out there to know if anyone has had any sort of contact with him," Caldwell added. "It's important that you do come forward if he's done anything untoward, because this is something that is extremely serious."
Sheriff's officials said Kreischer, once registered with the state as a sexually violent predator, was most recently registered as a transient in the Lemon Grove area. He was previously living in downtown San Diego.
10News learned Kreischer has convictions for forcible rape and lewd conduct with a child.
Anyone with information on Kreischer is urged to call the sheriff's department at 858-565-5200 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
