Heartland Fire Department responded to several small brush fires along State Route 67 in Lakeside on Saturday afternoon.
Fire officials were initially called to the area at about 4:20 p.m. to respond to a small grass fire on the right shoulder near the Riverford off ramp.
Once on scene, they observed nine small brush fires on both sides of the freeway.
A Sig Alert was issued for both sides of the 76 at Riverford, while crews extinguished the fires.
As of 5:30 p.m. all lanes of the freeway were reopened.
The cause is still under investigation, but fire officials say they may have been started by a car’s catalytic converter sparking on the freeway.
