Serra Mesa Standoff Ends; 1 Taken Into Custody

Search Warrant Served Was Part Of Federal Indictment

A man indicted in a sports-bribery ring involving 10 people was taken into custody following a SWAT standoff in Serra Mesa.

According to 10News' media partner The San Diego Union-Tribune, Steven Warda Goria barricaded himself inside a home in the 2700 block of Mobley Street shortly before 9:30 a.m. The incident prompted a SWAT response and the evacuation of several residents in the area.

FBI investigators, accompanied by San Diego Police Department officers, went to the home to serve a search warrant in connection with an unsealed federal indictment involving allegations of point-shaving, conspiracy to commit sports bribery, running an illegal sports bookmaking operation and distributing marijuana. Goria was among 10 people named in the indictment.

The U-T reported Goria refused to allow authorities to enter, prompting the standoff. He agreed to surrender to authorities shortly before 11 a.m.
