POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - An elderly woman who fell from a living facility transport van has died.

Rose Heames, 84, died at the hospital Saturday following the incident at Mountain Vista Sunshine Care Facility on Friday just before 4 p.m. Poway Sheriff's Department said Heames and other passengers had just arrived at the facility and were let out of the transport van in the driveway.

The driver exited the van and started walking around to the passengers' side to help them out, when the van began rolling backward. Poway Sheriff's said the van was not in "park" and the emergency brake was not set.

The driver tried to get back into the van, investigators said, but was knocked down and pinned under the left front wheel and dragged backward. The van stopped rolling after hitting several trees.

Heames was found outside of the van, on the ground and non-responsive, according to investigators.

Both the driver and Heames were transported to the hospital. The driver sustained injuries to her right leg and right knee. None of the other passengers were injured.

Poway Sheriff's Traffic Division is investigating the collision. Anyone with information is asked to call Poway Deputy Sundae Benton or Deputy Robert Gibson at 858-513-2800.
