Search under way in Encinitas for a man driving a stolen car

ENCINITAS, Calif. - A search is under way Friday for a man driving a stolen vehicle in Encinitas.

Police said they are looking for the driver of a red sedan, who led officers in a chase.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and the vehicle came up stolen.

The driver sped off and smashed the car into a metal fence on North Vulcan Avenue shortly before midnight.

The driver then jumped out of the vehicle and fled towards F Street.

Police set up a perimeter and searched for the man by air, but he was still at-large as of 4:50 a.m.

Police described the driver as white, in his late twenties with a shaved head and tattoos on his arm. He was wearing a multi-colored, T-shirt and jeans.
