SAN DIEGO, Calif. - A man was robbed of his watch at knifepoint while walking in the San Carlos neighborhood, then stabbed as he tried to get it back, police said Tuesday.
The victim was walking on the south sidewalk in the 6900 block of Navajo Road near Park Ridge Boulevard shortly before 11:30 a.m. Monday when an older two-door Mitsubishi pulled up behind him and two young men got out, San Diego police Officer Dan Lasher said.
The man who had been a passenger demanded the victim's property, prompting the victim to reply that he only had a wristwatch and would not hand it over, Lasher said.
The other man pulled a knife and forced the victim to give up the watch, Lasher said.
The suspects started to head back to the car, at which point the victim lunged at them in an abortive attempt to get the watch back. The knife-wielding suspect stabbed the victim in his abdomen and the assailants drove away, Lasher said.
The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for the non-life-threatening stab wound, Lasher said.
Police described the attackers as black, about 18 years old, unshaven and around 5 feet 9, each with a medium build.
