SDPD Officer Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges

Officer Roel Tungcab Is The Third Officer Arrested Or Placed On Administrative Assignment Since February

A San Diego police officer has been arrested on domestic violence charges.

There was no answer on Monday when 10News knocked on the door of the home of San Diego police Officer Roel Tungcab. It's the same home where days earlier, the officer called 911 for a domestic disturbance and also where he was arrested over the weekend on spousal domestic violence charges.

"He's a good guy," a neighbor told 10News. "I don't know what happened, but to each their own."

Though Tungcab's friend and neighbor may be defending him, his own family told 10News they are concerned. Tungcab has not been seen since he posted bail.

His mother said in their last conversation, Tungcab told her he was "just driving around," that he was somewhere near Los Angeles and that he didn't want to come home.

Tungcab is the third officer from the San Diego Police Department to be taken into custody or placed on administrative leave since February.

Officer Anthony Arevalos is accused of victimizing nine women and offering to clear them from citations in exchange for sexual favors. A judge ordered Arevalos to stay away from the alleged victims while the investigation continues.

Another officer, Vice Detective Art Perea, quit earlier this month over allegations that he raped a 19-year-old college student inside an El Cajon home in February.

While the San Diego County Sheriff's Department investigates the case against Tungcab, SDPD has placed him on administrative assignment.

San Diego police told 10News that Tungcab's arrest is a personnel issue. The department would not comment on the other two officers.
