SDPD cruiser smashes into car in downtown San Diego

SAN DIEGO – There were no serious injuries after an unmarked San Diego police patrol car smashed into a car in downtown San Diego early Monday morning. 
 
Just before 5:30 a.m. the police cruiser T-boned a car carrying two people at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Ash Street. The collision sent the car colliding into a parked vehicle. 
 
The woman driving the car and her male passenger were evaluated at the scene but did not require transport to a local hospital, police said. The officer was also not seriously hurt. 
 
San Diego police told 10News the cause and circumstances of the crash were under investigation. It was not immediately clear if the officer was responding to a call at the time. 
 
Westbound Ash Street was closed at 5th Avenue, while southbound 4th Avenue was blocked at Beech Street. The roads were expected to remain closed for several hours.
