San Ysidro shoe store robbed at gunpoint

Robbery occurred at Payless Shoesource

SAN DIEGO - A shoe store in San Ysidro was robbed at gunpoint on Saturday, a police officer said.

The suspect spent about 30 minutes inside the Payless Shoesource at 501 East San Ysidro Blvd. before he approached a female employee shortly before 1 p.m., showed a handgun and demanded cash, San Diego police Officer Gerry Waclawek said.

The robber then ordered the employee to the back of the store and ran west on San Ysidro Boulevard with an undisclosed amount of money, Waclawek said. No one was hurt, according to the officer.

Police described the suspect as a white or Hispanic man who was 20 to 25 years old. He was about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 150 pounds and was wearing a white shirt and unknown-colored shorts.
