SAN DIEGO - Authorities on Saturday released the name of a young man who was killed several days after his 22nd birthday.
County Medical Examiner’s Office said the accident happened Thursday, shortly after 2:30 p.m.
The 22 year old driver, Gerardo Valerio, lost control of his white Scion TC while going westbound on a curve in the 1000 block of East Mission Road in San Marcos.
The sedan hopped a curb and struck several trees, sheriff's Deputy Agustin Rosas said. Valerio, a San Marcos resident, died at the scene.
Rosas said that witnesses believed Valerio may have been racing another motorist just before the accident. The other involved driver -- if there was one -- did not stop.
