Crews douse brush fire off state Route 78 in San Marcos

Smoke from fire blew across highway

SAN DIEGO - Crews Tuesday contained a brush fire burning off eastbound state Route 78 in the San Marcos area.

According to fire dispatchers, the blaze broke out at about 12:30 p.m. on the right shoulder of eastbound SR-78 just west of San Marcos Boulevard.

Authorities at the scene said the fire sent heavy smoke across the highway, causing traffic to back up.

As of 12:50 p.m., eastbound SR-78 lanes in the area are opened, but traffic remains slow.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.
