SAN FRANCISCO - Tens of thousands of people decked out in orange and black packed the streets of San Francisco Wednesday for a confetti-drenched parade and rally honoring the World Series champion Giants.
Giants Manager Bruce Bochy credited fans and his players' "unselfish play" for helping to lift San Francisco to its second World Series victory in three years. He hoisted the World Series trophy from the back of a gold Rolls Royce during most of the 1 1/2-mile procession.
Bochy told fans gathered for the rally in Civic Center Plaza the tagline of the 2012 Giants was "never say die," a reference to the team's come-from-behind, post-season dominance.
San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee handed Giants President Larry Baer a ceremonial metal "broom to the city" for their four-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers along with the customary key.
Police say a handful of people was arrested for public intoxication and officers issued a few citations for fighting, but the crowds generally were cooperative.
