San Diego Unified's Board of Education elects Kevin Beiser as new president

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Unified School District's Board of Education elected Kevin Beiser as its new president and Marne Foster as vice president, the board announced Wednesday.

Beiser, a math teacher elected to the five-member board in 2010 as a representative for District B, was elected president at a board meeting on Tuesday night.

"I look forward to working together to continue improving public education with quality schools in every neighborhood," Beiser said after the meeting. "My experience in the classroom, working side by side with school administrators and parents alike has given me a unique insight as to how the policies that are developed by the Board and the Superintendent's office affect those of us on the front lines."

Beiser served as board vice president for a year. District E's Marne Foster will now take over that role.

"I'm excited!" Foster said. "I look forward to continuing this work to create the conditions where all students can succeed, and value the listening and collaborating with SDUSD internal and external stakeholders to make it happen."
