San Diego police uncover indoor marijuana grow in Otay Mesa business

SAN DIEGO - San Diego police have uncovered a large marijuana grow operation inside an Otay Mesa business in the 6100 block of Progressive Avenue.

Officers found more than 200 large marijuana plants and nine pounds of processed pot.

One neighbor told 10News a young man came to the building several times a week and told people it was a refrigeration repair shop.

Police were tipped off after a neighbor complained about the strong smell of pot and raided the building on March 28, with the help of U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents.

"I looked at the corner of the building and I saw two or three DEA cops. They were with their bags coming in and out of the building putting them in their trucks," said Alan Gallegos, who works nearby.

No arrests have been made but court documents show 22-year-old Ryan Burdeaux opened an SDG&E account there and racked up bills close to $2,000 a month. A search warrant also shows Burdeaux was arrested previously on a drug charge.

"It's just strange. It's strange, especially here in these types of areas," said Gallegos.
