SAN DIEGO - An overnight sobriety and driver license checkpoint in Pacific Beach netted 12 arrests for driving under the influence or drugs, police said Saturday.

The checkpoint was set up in the 2600 block of Ingraham Street between 11:02 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. this morning, said San Diego police Officer Mark McCullough.

A total of 612 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 474 were screened by officers, he said.

Twenty-four motorists were detained for sobriety tests, according to McCullough, who said 11 vehicles were impounded and one person was arrested for public intoxication.

"The message is simple, drive sober or get pulled over," McCullough said in a news release. "Driving and alcohol do not mix. If you plan to consume alcohol, you should also plan not to get behind the wheel of a vehicle or ride a motorcycle."
