SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A car struck and killed a man in front of a CVS Pharmacy in Mission Beach, San Diego police said.

The incident was reported shortly after 11:30 a.m. at the store on 4445 Mission Boulevard.

Police said the 70-year-old female driver put her car in drive thinking she had put it in reverse and accelerated out of a parking space, striking an unidentified 52-year-old man in front of the store.

The man was pinned against a concrete pillar, and police said he was declared dead at the scene.

Customers can go in and out of the store, but the area where the incident happened has been taped off due to the investigation.

Police said they would review surveillance camera footage as part of their probe.

Drugs and alcohol were not part of the accident, police said.
