San Diego police investigate break-in at Nicolosi's Italian Restaurant in San Carlos

Burglars snatched empty registers, police say

SAN DIEGO - Police Tuesday are investigating an early morning break-in at a San Carlos restaurant.

"You feel invaded ... your privacy, your business ... you're invaded," said Barbara Burner, one of the owners of Nicolosi's Italian Restaurant.

San Diego police said officers responded to a burglar alarm that went off at the eatery in the 7000 block of Navajo Road just before 3 a.m. When officers arrived, the front door of the business was open with a broken glass pane on it. Police believe the thief or thieves used a rock to break the front door.

According to police, after a K-9 search, only two smashed cash registers were found on the floor. There was no cash in the registers, 10News learned.

Burner told 10News she's thankful whoever was responsible for the break-in walked out of there empty handed.

She said Tuesday's break-in was the first at the restaurant since it opened more than 60 years ago.

10News learned police are planning to review the restaurant's surveillance video.
