Initial search for suspect who escaped police custody at Central Jail called off

SAN DIEGO - The initial search for a handcuffed robbery suspect who escaped from custody at the San Diego Central Jail has been called off.

La Mesa police brought the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Angelo Paschall, to the downtown jail to be booked. While Paschall was being unloaded at a processing area of the jail, he slipped out of custody and ran away.

Paschall, who is wearing handcuffs, was last seen heading southbound on C Street.

Officers searched the area, including inside a parkade at Sixth Avenue and L Street where someone reported a possible sighting of the escapee, but were unable to find him.

Paschall is described as black, 6 feet 4 inches tall with curly black hair and a thin build. He was wearing a red sweatshirt and a white tank top underneath. Police say he is wanted on a robbery charge and say he has priors for theft-related offenses.

Authorities will continue to be on the lookout for Paschall and anyone who sees him is asked to call 911.
