San Diego police: Driver hits parked cars in Sunset Cliffs, flees scene; suspect hiding in bushes

Officers say alcohol may be a factor in wrecks

SAN DIEGO - Police arrested a man who they said hit several parked cars in Sunset Cliffs early Monday morning and then fled from a roll-over crash.

The San Diego Police Department said they were alerted to the driver after a call came in reporting that an SUV had struck a vehicle on Barcelona Drive and had left the scene of the wreck.  A few minutes later, officers received multiple calls of a roll-over crash on Hill and Cordova streets.

When police arrived at the scene, they said they discovered the suspect's red Jeep Cherokee on its side. The vehicle had crashed head-on into a parked Jeep.

Up the block, another parked pickup truck and a row of hedges appeared to have been struck by the same driver.

As they were investigating the scene, officers said they received a call from a resident who said a man was hiding in her yard.  Officers moved in and took him into custody.

Police said the man was transported to UCSD Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.

Officers said alcohol may be a factor in the wrecks.
