SAN DIEGO - A San Diego Police Department gang detective was serving desk duty Thursday due to his involvement in a possible DUI traffic crash in Allied Gardens while off-duty.

The detective, an 11-year member of the department, was driving an undercover police car when he got into the solo crash in the 7300 block of Princess View Drive on Friday, SDPD public affairs Lt. Andra Brown said.

He suffered injuries that required hospital care, Brown said.

Traffic investigators have forwarded their findings about the accident to the San Diego City Attorney's Office, which will determine whether a misdemeanor DUI charge is warranted in the case.

The gang investigator's name was withheld.

"The police department is still conducting a personnel investigation, so we will not identify the detective or make any further comment at this time," the lieutenant said.
