San Diego police chase after aggressive dog

SAN DIEGO - An aggressive dog on the loose prompted a 1.5 hour police chase early Thursday.

San Diego Police Department said it received a call about an aggressive German shepherd on the loose on 47th Street around 12 a.m.

Officers, including a K9 officer, attempted to catch the dog near the 10News Station on Air Way but the dog escaped prompting a chase.

Officers followed the dog down 47th Street and later detained the dog with the help of an animal control officer.

“It took some time pursuing the dog in the area but the persistence paid off,” said SDPD Lt. Paul Phillips.

The dog is currently at a shelter and is being checked to see if it has a microchip so its owner can be located.
